PSPgo Review

The PSPgo is a small, hand-held console made by PlayStation. It is equipped with a 16GB hard drive and wifi capabilities. The PSPgo is furnished with the PlayStation Store where games can be downloaded with the push of a button as well as TV shows and movies.

Consumer reviews of the PSPgo are mixed. While a good majority of users love the product because of its versatility, accessibility to wifi and size (about 43% smaller than the PSP), there is a good chunk that prefer the original PSP. This is because the PSPgo has no disc port for games (so lose all your old PSP games if you choose to upgrade) and is completely wifi based. No wifi equals no fun for most consumers. Also, with the PSPgo, there is a small annotation regarding the wifi that says "User responsible for all associated fees.", which means that PlayStation will not set up any networks for the PSPgo users. Consumers must supply the internet as well as buy the games online via the PSPgo section of PlayStation Store on the device.

Overall, it seems as if the PSPgo is PlayStations version of the iPod, only it is equipped with manual controls rather than a touch screen. But that's just an opinion of quite a few people.

It seems like a great product for somebody who has plenty of wifi access (and a credit card), but for those in more rural areas, its going to be about the same as the original PSP.

So, do I recommend this product as a consumer? No. Even after playing around on the network for a few hours and testing out new games, I found the original PSP as a better buy. It also has the wifi network, and games are just as graphically stable and plentiful.

If the PSPgo is right for you, it can be found at Best Buy, PlayStation.com, and Gamestop for roughly $250.
