Successful Sequels for the PS3
Filed in archive Game Reviews on April 15, 2010
The gaming world of PlayStation is constantly expanding. New games seem to be released by the second- but it seems that the top rated games are sequels! This may be because there is a preexisting fan base for these games, but there's a reason why the games were expanded on in the first place: they are totally awesome. At least, that's what the fans on Gamespot.com think.
Of all the newly released games, there are three that are insanely popular, have the highest ratings, and are sequals to preexisting epic games.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Military inspired games for PlayStation systems are a dime a dozen, however it seems that COD is revamping the playing field. Modern Warfare 2 boasts a killer 9 out of 10, and has a fan base comparable to that of Hannah Montana (without the screaming tween girls). COD can lead to an obsession in young and old alike. The complex story behind the campaign game play is almost worth the 60 bucks just to watch the short videos while the game loads. The story takes place in a modern America on the brink of war. At one point, you are using up the very last of your ammunition in a courageous last stand on the front lawn of the inflamed White House. COD is perhaps most popular because of the online game play. There are team deathmatches, free for alls, and capture the flag inspired games. In some cases, the addiction to perfecting the gamer's kill score is so intense, it would seem intervention is the only way to break the habit.
Final Fantasy XIII
Probably one of the most popular RPGs of all time is the Final Fantasy series. The latest installment is the first of the series to be made available to the PS3 system. Fans are not disappointed and rate the game 8.5 out of 10. The linear game play is just the same as the predecessors in the series, however the storyline and cast is winning over gamer's hearts like Megan Fox carrying around a PS3 controller (and actually knowing what an analog stick is). The unique world coined by the Final Fantasy series is just as beautifully complex as ever, and the battle sequences are all the more engaging and interactive. It's a pretty good theory to think that Final Fantasy will be consistently impressing games when it hits its eighty-fourth installment.
Grand Theft Auto IV
GTA has been one of the most loved and most hated games of all time. Maybe it's the violence, or the sex, or the language… but there is something about these elements that just keep the gamers asking for more. Boasting a devastating 10 out of 10 score, and titled as the "Editor's Pick", GTA is blowing away competition just as well as the main character, illegal immigrant Niko Bellic, can pick off pedestrians from a rooftop in Liberty City. The game is character driven, and depends solely on the campaigns chosen to be completed by the gamer. Not only is the single player campaign riveting, the multiplayer option is just as entertaining; allowing up to 16 players at once to ravage the city. Along with a brand new storyline, the latest installment of GTA is equipped with new weapons, cars, and infinite ways to get into some trouble.
